Papakōlea, HI – Fifty-seven (57) keiki arrived at the Papakōlea Community Center for Kupua‘e Kauwela 2018 on June 12th. This year, the Papakōlea Community Development Corporation (PCDC) expanded the program to serve keiki, ages 3-10, and to provide programming during each intersession. The curricula is designed to educate keiki through the application of the traditional ‘ohana system and principles of aloha – aloha for the ‘Āina and aloha for each other.
Kupua’e is a culture-based educational approach utilizing ‘ōlelo Hawai’i to provide intersession enrichment activities and laying an educational. foundation for their specific age group. Kupua’e is a program of the PCDC, established in 2016. Our team of Kumu and Kōkua include: ‘Iolani Uli’i, Kahanu Walker, Kalehua Oliveira, Kaumuali’i Titcomb, Kelli-Anne Ganeku, Chantal Keli’iho’omalu, Beau Shishido, Kawai Kaneakua-Rauschenburg, and Wini Walker.
